Speed of travel and the construction of views
How do we construct views of a place? How does the view of the tourist differ from that of a resident? Using the work of writers and philosophers including Paulo Coelho, this dynamic workshop led by the artist Emma Smith uses Tate Britain’s collection displays, including the work of
J.M.W Turner and
William Blake, as a landscape in which to test how walking changes our views – both opinions and perspectives. Smith’s ongoing project, School for Tourists, celebrates walking as ameans of being in and connecting to place: as an act of agency and belonging. Includes food for walking.
