The conference seeks to refocus public transport research and policy on justice, equity, and fairness, principles that have been sidelined in favour of technological advancements, efficiency, and climate adaptation. The conference builds on existing research around inclusiveness, social sustainability, and transport justice, highlighting three key dimensions: the distribution of access and benefits, the recognition of diverse public transport needs, and the participation in decision-making processes. Through a two-day conference, we will create a platform for the exchange of best practices, experiences, critical reflections and challenges.

Contributions are invited to address the inclusiveness of public transport systems in various urban regions, including both densely populated, peri-urban, and remote areas, possibly from an intersectional perspective. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the integration of micro-mobility with public transport, the role of flexible and on-demand systems, inclusive TOD, and the impact of pricing on transport inclusivity. Additionally, the conference will explore participatory public transport planning, such as urban living labs and other inclusive platforms, to investigate whether and how diverse needs of different societal groups are met.

Mobility

For the Mobile Lives Forum, mobility is understood as the process of how individuals travel across distances in order to deploy through time and space the activities that make up their lifestyles. These travel practices are embedded in socio-technical systems, produced by transport and communication industries and techniques, and by normative discourses on these practices, with considerable social, environmental and spatial impacts.
