Transition to electric mobility will have significant impacts on energy infrastructure systems. On the other hand, the urban development plays a crucial role in determining where the need may arise for electric vehicle (EVs) and their charging infrastructure. Yet to date, the interaction and dependency of energy infrastructure and urban development, alongside the impacts of EV policies, within different institutional contexts remain insufficiently explored. The aim of Urban Development, Energy infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility (UDESMO) network, funded by ESRC, is to address this knowledge gap and the lack of connectivity and level of engagement between the UK and South Korea (KR) researchers through networking activities. In two workshops running consecutively, the aims of this event are as follows:

Facilitate knowledge exchange on role of urban planning and policy in facilitating the management of power networks in the UK and KR
Generate comparative insights on policy goals, implementation structures and instruments across the UK and KR
Identify lessons to share to enable cost-effective operation of power networks between the UK and KR

This is a two-day event where the first day is dedicated to presentations from the early career researchers (ECRs) and setting a research agenda with international perspectives. The second day focuses on generating shared knowledge on policy goals, instruments and implementation structures across the UK and KR with the participation of academia, industry and policy stakeholders. Both events will include academic presentations, breakout-out sessions and plenary debates and run in a hybrid format. To encourage the participation of UK ECRs in person, we will cover their travel and accommodation costs, subject to the availability of funds and meeting the selection criteria. We adhere to provide a platform for equal, diverse and inclusive participation. Speakers and panel participants

Mobility

For the Mobile Lives Forum, mobility is understood as the process of how individuals travel across distances in order to deploy through time and space the activities that make up their lifestyles. These travel practices are embedded in socio-technical systems, produced by transport and communication industries and techniques, and by normative discourses on these practices, with considerable social, environmental and spatial impacts.
