Mobilities Aotearoa symposium 2024: Mobilities and Development: From Global to Local

This year’s Mobilities Aotearoa Symposium considers the theme of “Mobilities and Development: From Global to Local”. We invite interdisciplinary exploration of how mobilities – encompassing the movement of people, resources, and ideas – both shape and are shaped by development processes across global and local scales. Paper submissions are encouraged to address the interplay between mobilities and critical development issues such as sustainability, poverty, (in)equality, social justice, and globalisation.

Topics may include, but are not limited to, uneven development and mobilities, mobility justice, Indigenous mobilities and knowledges, border control in the context of refugees, diaspora studies, transportation and infrastructure, digital and virtual mobilities, climate change and environmental impacts related mobilities, mobilities in the context of economic and social development, health and wellbeing, famine and food security, and urban and rural mobilities.

Submissions are invited that present work in progress or completed research on these topics, aiming to inform and inspire further studies. Contributors are also encouraged to consider how their research builds on and contributes to the existing literature, including theoretical mobilities, applied mobilities, critical mobilities studies, or Indigenous mobilities, among others.

Abstract Submission: Please submit your abstract (maximum 250 words) to Johanna Thomas-Maude at J.Thomas-Maude@massey.ac.nz by 24th October 2024. Your submission should include your name, contact details, paper title, abstract, and a few key words. Additionally, please provide a brief (50 words) biographical note.
